TRUE DEFINITION OF RELIGION

        

Defining religion is not a matter of a right or wrong definition it's a matter of more or less comprehensive,biased,precise.

Some attempts to define religion will naturally be better than others.

But when defining something we want to avoid value judgements.We would not define "fruit" by saying it's something that tastes good not only is this a value judgement that not everyone will agree with but it is rather vague that it's not helpful.What am I saying folks?? Y'all should avoid judging people based on their religion.

             DEFINITION OF RELIGION

   * It's broad enough to include all religions.

_People should not define religion in a way that leaves out some manifestation of religion.

_No specific religion should be left out.

For instance if we say that religion means "belief" in God.We will leave out those people who worship many deities (a general word meaning gods/goddesses)and those that worship none at all.This description also focuses on belief and excludes other important dimensions of religion:

1: Religion must be specific (not too broad/nor too vague)so as to distinguish religion from other similar things such as non-religious philosophy of life of a deeply held and passionate commitment to a social cause.

2.It should be sufficiently comprehensive so as to include various aspects or dimensions of any religion.

3.Consider both the substance as well as the functions of religion (What is religion and what it does for us try and digest your thoughts)

 

*Explain the purposes or origin of religion rather than describing it objectively.

4.Avoid being a negative critique of religion.For example do not describe what religion is so much, avoid offering a theory of religion.
