SOCIAL MEDIA ADDICTION
Social media addiction can be viewed as one form of internet addiction where individuals exhibit a compulsion to use social media to excess.
But frequent social media usage does not necessarily indicate social media addiction and therefore does not always have negative implications for individual's mental health.
One factor that may underlie the negative effects of social media addiction is self-esteem.Although viewing or editing one's own online profile enhances self-esteem,for example frequent Instagram and Facebook users believe that others are happier and more successful than themselves.
Instagram was correlated with reduced self-esteem such that individuals who spent a greater amount of time on Instagram per session and who made a greater number of Instagram logins per day had lower self-esteem.
Well to me social media can be defined as an environment in which people come together to share data, relationships and content using internet communication channels.
Social media addiction is brought by lack of friends, sometimes perceived as an activity, fulfilling a mission, following real current events,to be intermingled with real life.
My closure on this is that conscious use of social individuals in the use of social media is essential.Work should be done to determine the effect of social media on health and social life.
